NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Chicago Police arrested one individual last week during an apparent theft attempt at a construction site protected by Sonitrol Chicagoland North.
The apprehension occurred after Sonitrol Chicagoland North monitoring operators received a verified video alert of suspicious activity at a Summit Design + Build construction site in the early morning hours of June 12. Sonitrol quickly dispatched Chicago Police to the site, where the arrest was made.
According to Sonitrol Chicagoland North Business Development Manager Clay Crost, “Most construction sites are unprotected because general contractors are not aware of security solutions for this growing problem.” He cited a National Insurance Crime Bureau report, together with other studies, that show U.S. construction equipment losses alone now topping $1 billion per year. Theft of valuable materials, such as plumbing and electrical cable, as well as site vandalism, represents costly risks to builders.
Crost added, “When would-be criminals try to vandalize or steal from one of our client’s construction sites, they are in for an unpleasant surprise!”
