7 Easy Tips to Securing your School Campus
Be sure you continue to follow your security procedures when students are in the building for summer school.
- Consider changing the schedules to monitor and control staff access to the building. With a smaller staff for the summer, it could be a safety concern to have staff in the building alone.
- Remind your staff to remain diligent during the summer as it relates to activity in the school. If you see something, say something.
- Summer time is prime time for contractors to work in the schools. Be sure your custodial staff secures all windows and doors at the end of each day.
- In areas of the building that are under construction or being remodeled, consider programming your security system to partition the system so you can leave those areas off of the system. This will allow you to secure the remainder of the building.
- When the building is open for contractors or summer work, consider keeping sensitive areas like the administrative offices, computer labs, and library/resource center locked and secured.
- Keep in mind the summer is a good time to consider or implement enhancements and maintenance checks of your school’s security and alarm systems.
