Sonitrol Offers Schools Temperature Screening Solution

When schools reopen and classes resume across the country in a post-pandemic scenario, added security measures to protect the health of students, staff, and visitors will surely be required. Sonitrol Great Lakes is finding solutions to help schools carry out this important task by offering high-speed, efficient, and highly accurate thermal monitoring cameras.

The use of thermal body temperature measurements is an effective, proven solution to preserve health and protect people, not only at schools, but at businesses, transportation centers, sports and entertainment venues, and more. Mass thermal imaging offers these advantages:

• Contactless, non-invasive detection of elevated skin temperatures

• Measures large groups at a distance

• Reduces manpower requirements

Developed and manufactured by Dahua Technology, a global video surveillance company, the cameras will measure the body temperature of students, employees, visitors, and are fully capable of handling the flow of thousands of people every day. Compared to the traditional method of body temperature measurement using a forehead thermometer, the Dahua Thermal Solution can significantly improve speed and accuracy, and at the same time help reduce cross-infection via non-contact measurement.

In one scenario, for example, to measure the temperature of 5,000 people, would require about 4.2 hours using a traditional forehead thermometer, at a rate of around 3 seconds for each person. According Dahua, its system would take only 30 minutes when using the thermal solution, measuring 3 people per second.

The technology, which also features a high accuracy rating of ±0.5 degrees Fahrenheit, uses a thermal camera with a white light and external speaker that can be triggered whenever it detects a person’s elevated temperature. A secondary temperature check could then be performed. The system can also monitor temperatures when people use face accessories or headwear as well as monitor multiple people in view, and will help reject false positives from things likes hot drinks.
