When conditions are right for severe weather, the National Weather Service will announce a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch. You should check your local station often for updates on the weather conditions. If a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued, it means that a storm or tornado has been sighted in your area. It\u2019s important to pay close attention as conditions can change rapidly.<\/p>

Take action<\/strong>
In the event of a tornado warning, you may only have a few minutes to move to safety. Preplanning is very important. Practice a family tornado drill once a year and periodically check that all family members know where the designated \u201ctornado shelter\u201d is. Go to the lowest level of your home or to an interior room without windows. Keep tuned to your local radio station for updates and further information.<\/p>
