In the wake of tragic and more recent school and university campus shootings in Parkland, Florida, and Mount Pleasant, Michigan, education officials across the country are struggling with demands from students, parents, and local officials to drastically improve school building and campus safety and security. In 2017, Sonitrol Great Lakes partnered with Bill Cousins, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, to offer school designers and administrators the services of a specialized security consultant.
Sonitrol Great Lakes has been protecting educational facilities across the region for more than 50 years. Our approach has always been to apply a more holistic, custom-designed security protection solution for school buildings and campuses.
“We partnered with Bill because we recognize that security is about more than just equipment,” said Mike Wanstreet, President of Sonitrol Great Lakes. “He brings a situational awareness to the security application that includes policies and procedures training that can help mitigate the threat before it gets inside the facility.”
Cousins is principal and founder of WJ Cousins & Associates, which provides a full range of security investigation, protection, and litigation consulting services to individuals, corporations, law firms and government agencies worldwide. He is a former U.S. Secret Service Special Agent and former Director of Security for two global automotive manufacturers.
Cousins provides an expert security risk assessment, using computer-aided design (CAD) to identify vulnerable areas on school campuses and buildings, placing necessary access controls, cameras, and other detection devices. In turn, Sonitrol Great Lakes provides the technology, hardware, installation, and verified 24/7 protection monitoring services to provide perimeter and interior security.
At Sonitrol Great Lakes, we believe security should be proactive, not reactive. We have the technology and the expertise to provide schools, colleges, and universities comprehensive, verified security solutions.
