Protecting Our Schools: Enhanced Training Available Across Region

In the wake of tragic shootings at schools across the U.S., law enforcement and security experts are developing new, enhanced ways of dealing with active shooter situations and protecting schools. One highly-regarded resource available to school administrators is the ALICE Training Institute, which has provided security training services to 4,200 K-12 school districts across the country.

computer-eyes“ALICE is known as the leading training solution that increases an organization’s and individual’s odds of survival during a violent intruder event,” according to Clay Crost, Sonitrol Great Lakes Director of Education Market. “ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate, is a post-Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook strategy that goes beyond the conventional school lockdown.”

The ALICE Training Institute, Crost noted, is changing how schools, universities and businesses respond to armed intruders. Developed after Columbine, the institute teaches strategies to survive a life-threatening event. Supported by educators and law enforcement across the country, ALICE is quickly becoming the new standard of care.

A variety of online and community-based training sessions are available to school leaders as well as first responders. In addition, private training sessions are also available for school districts. ALICE Instructor Certification Training is among the most popular courses and enables successful participants to teach ALICE strategies and tactics to colleagues and staff.
